FOD detection system on the runway, coordinated by CLI in research, design and production, allows automatic detection of foreign objects debris (FOD) quickly and accurately to bring safety to flight.

SYSTEM COMPONENTS

• Field sensors: To be installed at a distance of 60m on both sides of the runway and on the edge of the flight and parking zone.
• Cabinets for data analysis computer, power supply and sensor connections are located near the sensor but in a safe area.
• Transmission network connecting sensor mesh and control center.
• Control center includes a data server, FOD monitoring console and FOD cleanup mobilization.
• Mobile device to help collect FOD.


Sensor components

• High resolution and high sensitivity camera
• Lidar optical distance sensor
• GPS satellite receiver
• Transmission and power supply: cable between sensor and technical cabinets can be up to 60m

Sensor performance

• A telemetry signal-based processing system to detect FOD throughout the day, night, fog, and snow
• Sensitivity to detect objects from 3.5cm in diameter at distances up to 50m
• Detect metal, plastic, rubber, glass and organic materials
• Operating temperature from -40 degrees C to 60 degrees C
• Detection time from 40 seconds to 90 seconds (depending on the distance from the FOD to the sensor placement)

• The system has been tested to operate at Da Nang International Airport, Vietnam. Test results show that the system operates stably, detects FOD quickly and accurately, in accordance with international flight safety regulations (fully meeting FAA AC150 / 5220-24 technical standards).
